More Work
Last night was another of little sleep as we endevard to get both our 101 and 111 models finished in time. Our clip is still going well with around 40 frames comppletly photoshoped and with another 40 to be slightly retouched. We have come across an problem though, in the final scene the hands reaching for each other don’t match up at all, we will belooking at ways to fix this today. On the...

Stranger Than Fiction uses the idea of the white lines moving across surfaces and white descriptive text from this ad!! We really like this effect and we are trying to portray how the our “future phone” interacts with people and its surroundings - by both scanning information and data and sending it. We even thought it could gain energy and “charge up” from its surroundings...
This is the first half (nearly) of our clip, there are still some things that need looking at, such as:
- :( emoticon
- Blured lines instead of solid white?
- delete the white border around the phone?
- speed of frames
- music
13/06/2009 Pressure
Starting to feel the pressure now that the due date is only days away, though I do feel we are in a good place especially if we manage to keep up our huge effort that we have been able to put in this past week. Photoshoping is slow work as each of the frames must be individually edited to make sure they are each as perfect as we can get them, we are still working out the kinks but I feel we are...
After gaining permision to use Tiki’s song (Alway’s on My Mind) i added it to the serries of takes we did of the final scene of Jess’s and my hand coming together through the virtual surface. This gives us a feel of what it could be like, we will also add it to a more finalised photoshoped version of our clip so we can make a final desicion on exactly what song/artist we use.
12/06/09 Photoshoping.
Today and yesterday were more days of photoshoping, we have sorted out the pictures we want for all but the final scene (of which we shot today) this will be done shortly. Jess is very well organised on the music side of the clip, gaining permision from Tiki and (pending) Batcherlerette while I photoshop the frames, with her advice to keep me in line. Once again our ability to work as a team is...
PERMISSION GRANTED! TIKI TAANE!!
morris-jessica:
Tiki Taane’s manager emailed us back with permission for us to use “Always on My Mind”:
Kia ora Jess and Richard
Thanks for your email and request to use Always On My Mind for your Uni project. I’ve checked with Tiki and he is happy for you to use it - the norm of course is that if the project ends up progressing into something which is viewed by more people and for a longer...

Music Updates...
morris-jessica:
We are in contact with both Tiki Taane and Bachelorette’s managers but getting permission for Bachelorette may be difficult… Her management is weary of the song being used commercially by Nokia. Talked to Lee and he is going to write us up an official letter to forward to her… Hopefully he will save the day! Also looking at other New Zealand artists that we could get in contact...

Researching ways we can make the hand come out of the virtual surface. Making it metallicy etc. Specifically looking at 4:34 - 5:07 in this clip when Neo gets taken over by shiny metallicness as he enters the Matrix.

Hi ________,
We are two first year students at Victoria University In Wellington studying design. Our names are Jessica Morris and Richard Clarkson and we are currently doing a project in which we have to make a short stop motion clip focusing on ideas about future communication. It is kind of like a “connecting people” advertisement for Nokia as the project is in collaboratio...

Tuesday's shoot: To do list
morris-jessica:
Tuesday Shoot On Location at Jess’ House:
Zoom out – good but needs to be more steady and more precise – maybe use a tripod on wheels?
Like framing in window and good costume with glasses and nice shirt – spiffy
Interact while rotating eg flip phone while rotating and rotate slower so Jess can orbit Richard better
Pulling screen from phone needs to be more gradual have more...
This is the ‘Hybrid’ made up of the best shots over the various shoots, we plan to merge them and make them become one coheasive clip. We will do this in photoshop using tools such as the layer mask tool.

Final shoot today so that we have plenty of time to photoshop and tidy up our pictures. Starting to realalise that perfection on the camera is very, very difficult but hope to make it perfect in photoshop. We have tried to get the final shoot done as early of posible so that we have all the editing time we need.

The interaction between myself and Jess, although is very rough gives an idea of how it will work.

Today’sshoot was very helpful in leading up to (hopefully) our final shoot tomorrow allowing plently of photoshoping and retouching time aswell as sorting out music.
In the near future Jess will post our closing thoughts and ideas on our clip at the current level.
I am still pleased with the clip’s progress and am really looking forward to it taking on more precision and definition...

A good day.
Today’s shoot was very positive and encouraging as some of the problems and difficulties are slowly starting to be overcome, there is still a lot of work to do but I am feeling positive that we are on the right track. We decided that we wanted a clean and sleek look as apposed to a ‘homemade’ feeling (after researching a series of Apple add’s). Also we worked out that...
More refinement of our ideas and methods.
This was one of the trails we shot today, will look at ways of potoshoping Jess into the frame tonight.

Today we had a photoshoot to try and start putting together our clip. We did a few different versions and will post one of these in a short while. Our approch of experimenting by trialing a lot of things is, although time consuming, a very effective method of working out what works and what dosent and also what we like and dont like. This proved to be a succesfull approch today as we were able to...
This is the trial of the tear that falls down my face, however since then we have decided that it should fall down Jess’s face and i should wipe it away throught the inter-re-active surface.
This is the quick trial we did and shows how the “inter-re-active” surface could expand.

Meet with Jess today, to take addvantage of the day off and try take some shots. We took a serries of a peice of plain, flat, white paper ‘growing’ (as the virtural surface) and also screwed up the paper first wich gave a more interesting texture and surface to work with. We also disscused the option of using alluminium and ‘beating’ it to give it that fragmented look we...
Studio Three
In todays studio showed tutor the draft clip, had positive feedback and some really good ideas suggested, such as:
- real time virtual interaction, e.g through the surface i can wipe a tear off Jess’s cheek and move her hair. This is also very good as it for-shadows the possibilities of the hand coming out of the surface.
-also the tear idea was refined so that it is no longer on my face...
Progress
Meet with Jess again tonight to contiue disscusing our ideas and what we had so far, also reviewed our draft clip and talked about what worked and what didn’t. We decided we liked where it was going but wanted to push it further, perhaps her hand comes out of the Wall in paper “fragmented” form and reaches towoards mine as i reach for hers and as they touch the paper falls of to...
